Roller Chains & Links

Roller chain or bush roller chain is the type of chain drive most commonly used for transmission of mechanical power on many kinds of domestic, industrial and agricultural machinery, including conveyors, wire- and tube-drawing machines, printing presses, cars, motorcycles, and bicycles.

It consists of a series of short cylindrical rollers held together by side links. It is driven by a toothed wheel called a sprocket. It is a simple, reliable, and efficient means of power transmission.

Hans Renold invented the first roller chain in 1880. He came up with the idea while studying bicycle chains. The initial design consisted of a series of metal cylinders connected by pins, which allowed for the smooth transfer of power.

Over time, they made improvements to the design, such as adding side plates and using different materials. Today’s roller chains are much more advanced and have become an integral part of various industries.
